Pack a picnic and enjoy the scenery while sitting on the rocks. There’s a short 3 km loop from Curbar Gap car park so this is a great family friendly option. There’s a lovely community run pub/café/post office called the Angler’s Rest in Bamford which is well worth including at the beginning or end of your walk.īaslow Edge has far-reaching views, a boulder strewn landscape and almost guaranteed sightings of Highland cows. We love the 5 mile loop from Bamford Village which takes you up to the edge then down to the reservoir before following the river back to the village. The gritstone rock formations that you see on Bamford Edge are part of a series of edges that stretch for miles across the Peak District.

While you’re in the area, make sure to take a trip up to Bamford Edge for one of our all time favourite views over Ladybower Reservoir and the Hope Valley. The sheer gorge and rocky cliffs rise up either side of you. The road that leads out of Castleton towards Mam Tor will take you straight through the pass and makes for a spectacular drive. If you’re in Castleton, don’t miss the spectacular Winnats Pass. The Peak District was the UK’s first area to be designated as a National Park, so it’s not hard to see why it’s absolute dog heaven with walks, views and pretty villages at every turn. The pub is fully stocked with treats and there’s even doggie beer behind the bar. Muddy walking boots are welcomed and almost every table in the pub has pooches by their side. If a dog friendly pub is more for you, try The Castle Inn.

You’ll definitely be set up for an action-packed day ahead. Tilly’s of Castleton is a favourite of ours for a late breakfast – expect the longest list of Welsh rarebit and loose leaf teas that you’ve ever seen. It really is such a picturesque village and very quintessentially ‘Peak District’. In total, this dog walk is 6.5 miles long so allow a few hours to complete it, but make sure to stop in Castleton before or after to try out one of the many cafés or pubs. It’s famous for its large deposits of Blue John stone and is home to some of the most beautiful cave formations found in the UK. We’d definitely recommend stopping by the dog friendly Treak Cliff Cavern on your way up to the peak for a tour of the caves deep beneath the mountain. Then it’s a breathtaking 3 km ridge walk to Lose Hill before looping back into Castleton. The walk starts in the beautiful village of Castleton before a steep ascent to the peak of Mam Tor. We really love the route from Castleton that incorporates Treak Cliff Cavern, Lose Hill and the Great Ridge. With spectacular 360 degree views over the surrounding area, it’s somewhere that should be on your Peak District must-visit list. Mam Tor is an incredibly popular place to visit.
